Chris Griffin
Chris Griffin grew up in the Rhymney Valley, a coalmining region of South Wales and studied at Gloucestershire College of Art, Cheltenham and the Royal College of Art, London. Griffin won the Anstuther Prize at the RCA and a prizewinner in the Laing Landscape Competition in 1997 and 1998. Using heavily layered colour and paint texture Chris Griffin references re- imagined welsh landscapes and abstracted complex and intimate still life compositions. He says "The formal qualities of the South Wales landscape continue to provide me with a disparate and dynamic range of shapes, colours and textures that are the starting point for my paintings."
