After graduating from Chelsea School of Art I began making Automata and for twelve highly successful years I exhibited widely with exhibitions in major galleries throughout the UK including Manchester City Art Gallery, Birmingham City Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert museum. I was attracted to teaching in the early 90’s and I spent 20 years in schools teaching art. I recently left my last post as Head of Art at Rugby School in order to paint full time.

I have a life time of involvement in art making and describing the world around me and for a good handful of years now I have been painting landscapes. The hills, mountains and valleys that surround me here in Wales are an inspiration and and have become an important part of my life.

My recent paintings are an emotional response to what I experience and observe when walking in the hills around Brecon. While they are on the whole, topographically truthful and a figurative representation of what I witness, they are really much more about the marks that I use, the application of colour and confident gestures that I apply. I am more interested in the vitality and energy of my chosen materials. Hopefully the paintings hold a strong individual identity as well as echo a particular reality.
